Bishop to Install New Pastor for St. Mary

(WEST WARWICK, R.I.) – The Most Rev. Robert Evans, Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, will preside at the Pastor Installation Mass of Rev. Douglas J. Spina at St. Mary Church, 68 Church Street, on Sunday, September 30th at 11:00 a.m.

Fr. Spina was born and educated in Providence and Our Lady of Providence Seminary High School and College in Warwick.  He completed his seminary studies at the American College, University of Louvain, Belgium where he received a Bachelors and Masters in Religious Studies.  Bishop Louis E. Gelineau ordained him in 1976 in St. James church in Manville.

He served as assistant pastor at several parishes in the diocese including;  St. Clement, Warwick; St. Mary, Newport; St. Joan of Arc, Cumberland; as pastor, St. Anthony, Woonsocket, Our Lady of Grace, Johnston, St. Martha, East Providence and St. Kevin, Warwick.  He also served as campus minister at Roger Williams College, Bristol; as chaplain, Salve Regina University, Newport and Bryant College, Smithfield, as teacher, Our Lady of Providence Preparatory Seminary, Providence and as chaplain for the Johnston Police and Fire Departments.
